***** App Store Review *****

"I really did not need or want many of the fancy swipe features in a lot of the new keyboards. This app gives the keyboard all the things Apple frankly should have put in there in the first place ... finally an easy way to see lowercase and no more having to switch to type numbers. Life is better now."

"Effective 5 row keyboard. Useful swipe gesture ... Much better than other alternate keyboards with similar features."

Pros and cons of ShiftKey Keyboard app for iPhone and iPad

ShiftKey Keyboard app good for

the language support is not fully implemented. in europe we have special characters behind a (äàáâ) or o (öôòœ) its not possible to activate it via shiftkey! but hopefully in a next update!
Simplified, customizable, and visually appealing design. So far its worked well with all browser and apps. Thanks for rectifying apples keyboard fail! Frustration relieved. Worth the loss of predictive text.

Some bad moments

I really did not need or want many of the fancy swipe features in a lot of the new keyboards. This app gives the keyboard all the things Apple frankly should have put in there in the first place … finally an easy way to see lowercase and no more having to switch to type numbers. Life is better now.
Effective 5 row keyboard. Useful swipe gestures. Auto correction still needs work. Missing double tap to have a period and auto capitalisation. Could use polishing here and there. Keyboard design and invoke animation. Much better than other alternate keyboards with similar features.
Everything seems to work fine except the shortcuts under the keyboard settings will not work with shiftkey. Works with installed keyboard only. Big inconvenience for me.
This seems to be a step in the right direction if you dont like the standard Apple iPad keyboard which I definitely dont. However, the bottom two rows of keys are directly above or below each other which is not standard for any keyboards I have ever used. The keys should be rearranged to correct this deficiency and make the keyboard more natural.
Really the only thing Im looking for in a keyboard is the ability to move the cursor by swiping across the keyboard. This allows you to do that, but only with the bottom left portion (space bar and to the left of the space bar) For 5 stars I would want basically the apple keyboard layout with the swiping available across the whole keyboard. Right now you get the option of numbers on the top of the keyboard, which is nice because you dont have to switch layouts to see numbers, but honestly makes the letters too small for me (iPhone 6) You also get to erase by swiping on the keyboard. I can see the merit. For 5 stars I would want the option to choose if I want numbers or larger letters. And choose what swiping on each area did. For example choosing swiping on the keyboard (not space bar) would be moving the cursor and swiping on the space bar would be erasing
I originally added ShiftKey because I wanted a row of numbers always available, but then I discovered that this keyboard does so much more. Its super easy to move the cursor by sliding your finger in the space bar and its just as easy to delete words by sliding on the main area of the keyboard. Try it in landscape mode - wow - you then have cursor keys, hyphen, !, ? and other great options. Be sure to follow the developers instructions under the heading IMPORTANT in the app description. And note that in addition to adding a keyboard, ShiftKey adds an app - so be sure to explore both the app and the iPhone settings for the best customization. Also, please dont blame this developer for the following: 1) the keys are a slightly smaller because Apple requires that the row of number keys fit within the same area as the standard keyboard (this can be alleviated somewhat by typing in landscape mode), 2) the ShiftKey Keyboard is not available when typing passwords (Apple says they require this for security reasons, but I think if they put their minds to it, they could figure out a way to allow third-party keyboards that are secure) 3) to take full advantage of ShiftKeys features, you need to allow "full access to the keyboard" as explained in the app description (not sure why Apple requires this). Apple, if youre listening, please remove these restrictions so that third-party keyboards can have parity with the standard keyboard and really flourish on the iPhone!
